atand

Inverse tangent of each element, with the result in degrees.

Category: Mathematics > Elementary Math

Syntax

Y = atand(X)

Returns the inverse tangent of each element of X, in degrees.

Description

atand(X) is the degree counterpart of atan: atand(1) is 45 and atand(Inf) is 90. It is convenient for slopes: the inclination angle of a line with slope m is atand(m).

Input arguments

X
Numeric array of any size.

Output arguments

Y
Array of the same size as X, in degrees, strictly between -90 and 90 for finite input.

Example

Slope to angle

atand([0 1 -1 Inf])
Output
ans = 1×4

     0    45   -45    90
