betaincinv
Inverse of the regularized incomplete beta function.
Category: Mathematics > Elementary Math
Syntax
X = betaincinv(Y, Z, W)
Returns the X for which betainc(X, Z, W) equals Y.
Description
This is the quantile function of the beta distribution. For example, betaincinv(0.5, 2, 2) is 0.5, the median of a symmetric beta. Applying betainc to the result returns Y, up to rounding.
Input arguments
Y- Probabilities in
[0, 1]. Z, W- Positive shape parameters.
Output arguments
X- Values in
[0, 1].
Example
Quantiles of a beta distribution
betaincinv(0.5, 2, 2)
betaincinv(0.6875, 2, 3)
Output
ans = 0.5000
ans = 0.5000
