bessely
Bessel function of the second kind.
Category: Mathematics > Elementary Math
Syntax
Y = bessely(nu, Z)
Returns Y_nu(Z).
Y = bessely(nu, Z, 1)
Returns the function scaled by exp(-abs(imag(Z))).
Description
Y_nu is the second solution of Bessel's equation, independent of J_nu. It oscillates like J_nu but diverges to minus infinity at the origin. A general solution is a combination of J_nu and Y_nu, as in the radial part of waves in a circular domain that includes a hole at the center.
Input arguments
nu- Order (real).
Z- Real or complex argument.
Output arguments
Y- Values of the function. For negative real
Zthe result is complex.
Example
Second-kind Bessel function
bessely(0, 1)
bessely(1, 2)
Output
ans = 0.0883
ans = -0.1070
