ctranspose

Complex conjugate transpose, the function form of the ' operator.

Category: Language Fundamentals > Matrices and Arrays

Syntax

B = ctranspose(A)

Same as A'.

Description

Rows become columns and the sign of every imaginary part flips. For real data it is the plain transpose. Use transpose (the .' operator) when you want the transpose without conjugating.

For a complex column vector v, v' * v is the squared norm, which is why the conjugate matters.

Input arguments

A
Numeric, logical or char array with 2 dimensions.

Output arguments

B
The transposed array with each element conjugated.

Example

A = [1+2i 3; 4 5-1i];
ctranspose(A)
A.'
Output
ans = 2×2 complex

   1.0000 - 2.0000i   4.0000 - 0.0000i
   3.0000 - 0.0000i   5.0000 + 1.0000i
ans = 2×2 complex

   1.0000 + 2.0000i   4.0000 + 0.0000i
   3.0000 + 0.0000i   5.0000 - 1.0000i
