iztrans

Inverse Z-transform.

Category: Mathematics > Calculus

Syntax

f = iztrans(F, z, n)

Returns the sequence f(n) whose Z-transform is F(z).

Description

The Z-transform plays for sequences the role that the Laplace transform plays for functions. The inverse of z/(z-2) is the geometric sequence 2^n, and that of z/(z-1)^2 is n. It is used to find the time response of discrete filters from their transfer functions.

Input arguments

F
Symbolic expression in z.
z
Transform variable.
n
Index variable of the result.

Output arguments

f
Symbolic expression in n.

Example

Geometric and ramp sequences

syms z n
iztrans(z/(z - 2), z, n)
iztrans(z/(z - 1)^2, z, n)
Output
ans = 2^n
ans = n
