Category: Graphics > Formatting and Annotation

Syntax

map = jet

Returns a jet colormap with the default number of rows.

map = jet(m)

Returns a jet colormap with m rows.

Description

Jet was the default colormap of older MATLAB releases. It is a rainbow-style map that is easy to read at a glance but whose lightness goes up and down, which can create the impression of features that are not in the data. parula and turbo are better balanced alternatives.

Input arguments

m
Number of colors, a nonnegative integer.

Output arguments

map
m-by-3 matrix of RGB values between 0 and 1.

Example

Use jet on a surface

map = jet(8);
size(map)
surf(peaks(25))
colormap(jet(8))
colorbar
Output
ans = 1×2

     8     3
