sinh
Hyperbolic sine.
Category: Mathematics > Elementary Math
Syntax
Y = sinh(X)
Returns (exp(X) - exp(-X))/2 for each element of X.
Description
sinh is odd, increasing, and grows like exp(x)/2 for large positive x. It is the sine function for the hyperbola, in the same way that sin is for the circle: cosh(x)^2 - sinh(x)^2 is always 1.
It describes the shape of a hanging cable (together with cosh) and the velocity addition of relativity through rapidities.
Input arguments
X- Numeric array, real or complex.
Output arguments
Y- Array of the same size as
X.
Example
Real and complex arguments
sinh([0 1 2])
sinh(1 + 1i)
Output
ans = 1×3
0 1.1752 3.6269
ans = 0.6350 + 1.2985i
