airy
Airy functions and their derivatives.
Category: Mathematics > Elementary Math
Syntax
W = airy(Z)
Returns the Airy function Ai(Z).
W = airy(K, Z)
Selects the function by K: 0 is Ai, 1 is its derivative Ai', 2 is Bi, 3 is its derivative Bi'.
Description
The Airy functions Ai and Bi are the two independent solutions of w'' = z*w. Ai decays for positive z and oscillates for negative z, while Bi grows for positive z. They appear in quantum mechanics and in optics near a caustic.
Input arguments
K- Integer 0, 1, 2 or 3 choosing the function.
Z- Real or complex array.
Output arguments
W- Values of the chosen function, same size as
Z.
Example
The four Airy functions at 1
airy(0, 1)
airy(1, 1)
airy(2, 1)
airy(3, 1)
Output
